BMDCR now has a Facebook page. Pack Hike Although drafting is the Bernese Mountain Dog's traditional work our breed can also excel as a pack dog. Berners are already eligible to participate in the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog club's pack dog events and BMDCR member Ron Abbott has earned the WPD pack dog title with his dog, Steiger. Ron led five Berners and a Sammy on a pack hike this June 5th on the Colorado Trail.

Thanks to all the organizers, workers, and competitors. The results are posted here. Bernese Seeing Eye Dog Because of their short lifespan and potential health problems you don’t usually see Berners used as service dogs. But Bob Baillie of Southern Pines, NC has a Berner, Devon, as his seeing eye dog. Puppy Mill Shut Down Storm Cloudin, the Loveland, CO woman who allowed eight Berner pups to freeze to death, has had her license revoked by the state. She may continue to own 15 dogs and breed two litters per year. Reporter Herald Newspaper Story Seven Berner pups found dead at puppy mill There are new, sad developments in the Larimer County puppy mill run by the woman Storm Cloudin. Seven Berner pups were found frozen to death. The legal process drags on. Berners Eligible for Herding Berners will be eligible to compete in AKC herding events starting July 1 2001. The BMDCR has a few members who train in this fascinating activity and we have held herding instinct tests in the past. Perhaps the AKC’s recognition of our breed’s herding abilities will spark a revival of this lesser known working ability. One Berner from Larimer County in Foster Care Kaylee, one of the older Berners from the Larimer County puppy mill is in a foster home and is doing as well as can be expected. She was very scared and not sure of anything but is now coming up to her foster mom. This is typical of older dogs from puppy mills due to their lack of socialization - they know almost nothing of the world. With patient care many of them can make great strides. Larimer County Puppy Mill Under Fire but Hanging On A women, Storm Cloudin, operating out of Blue Wolf Ranch in Loveland CO had some of her many dogs seized and then returned by authorities. She raises Bernese, Bernese/Pyrenees mixes and others. She appears to sell at least some of her dogs through another woman, Jane Marie, who operates under the name "Dapple Doxie".in Johnstown, CO.
