Health Concerns

Bernese Mountain Dogs are plagued by a number of serious health problems.  Hip and elbow problems, cancers, autoimmune disease, and bloat are just some of the ailments that occur frequently in Bernese.  Some of these problems are genetic and will require generations of good breeding to bring under control.  The Berner-Garde Foundation and the BMDCA Health Committee work together to improve the health of Bernese Mountain Dogs by collecting data and educating breeders and owners.
